Robert Canfield began practicing law in 1977 after graduating from the University of Richmond Law School. He had earlier majored in accounting at the College of William and Mary. His early practice was of a general nature, but he began specializing in creditors’ rights and bankruptcy in the late 70’s. He has handled a significant amount of litigation, including successful appeals in the Virginia Supreme Court and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on a variety of issues. Having served as a Chapter 7 trustee for the US Bankruptcy Court, Richmond Division, he has lectured in past seminars on the subject of bankruptcy at numerous CLE seminars. Mr. Canfield is a member of several state and national associations involving bankruptcy issues. He has represented both debtors and creditors in a wide spectrum of complicated bankruptcy issues and is well-known for his willingness to help other members of the bar in bankruptcy-related matters.
